The NI Fiscal Council has published its response to the NI Affairs Committee call for evidence on the funding and delivery of public services in NI, alongside a report on the Updated estimate of the relative need for public spending in NI.

We present updated estimates of relative need for public spending in NI compared with England. following the approach used by the Holtham Commission in 2010 and the latest available data.

Our report highlights the continued impact of the Barnett squeeze. We estimate that the level of need for public spending in NI is around 24 per cent higher than that in England.

We summarise these findings in our response to the NI Affairs Committee.

The Secretary of State for NI has also released his 2023-24 Budget for NI departments on 27 April 2023. Today we also publish our initial summary of that Budget.
